Be Free to Be You Podcast: Seeing Beyond Our Filters

Picture

Viewing the World Through Your Filters Limits Possibilities

We all interpret events through filters shaped by our experiences, expectations and beliefs. Those filters can help us make sense of the world, but they can also narrow the options we notice.

In this Be Free to Be You podcast episode, Melissa reflects on how pausing and becoming curious can create room for a different response. The discussion is about personal perspective and everyday self-awareness; it is not presented as a claim about quantum physics.

Questions you might explore:
• What assumption am I making?
• Is there another way to understand this situation?
• What might I notice if I listened to a different point of view?

The Language of Intention

The Language of Intention

The words we choose can influence how we frame a task, but no phrase guarantees success. “I will try” is not automatically negative, and “I will” does not remove uncertainty. What matters is whether your language helps you identify a realistic next step.

If a goal feels stuck, try asking:
• What is the smallest action I can take?
• What support or information do I need?
• Is the timeframe realistic?
• How will I respond if the plan needs to change?

Some people find direct language such as “I will begin by…” useful because it turns a broad intention into an action. Others need gentler language that leaves room for learning and changing circumstances.

Choose words that support clarity, responsibility and self-compassion. Progress usually comes from repeated action, reflection and adjustment rather than from one perfect phrase.

When You Feel Like You Don’t Belong

When You Feel Like You Don’t Belong

Impostor feelings can show up as self-doubt even when there is evidence that you are capable. A person may dismiss their achievements as luck, worry that others will discover they are not good enough, or set exhausting standards for themselves.

These experiences vary widely and “impostor syndrome” is not a diagnosis you should make from an online checklist. Research also uses different definitions and measures, so simple claims about how many people experience it can be misleading.

Helpful reflections may include:
• Write down specific feedback and achievements rather than dismissing them.
• Separate being new or still learning from being a fraud.
• Talk with a trusted colleague, mentor or friend.
• Notice whether perfectionism is making reasonable work feel inadequate.
• Allow yourself to acknowledge effort as well as outcomes.

If persistent self-doubt is affecting your mood, sleep, relationships or work, consider speaking with a qualified mental-health professional.

It’s Time to Be a Kid Again

It’s Time to Be a Kid Again

Adult responsibilities can leave little room for curiosity, play and simple enjoyment. Children often remind us to notice what is happening now, ask questions and approach familiar things with fresh interest.

You might bring a little more playfulness into everyday life by:
• noticing a small thing you are looking forward to;
• trying a creative activity without needing to be good at it;
• asking questions and learning something unfamiliar;
• making time to laugh or be playful with people you care about;
• allowing rest and enjoyment to have a place alongside responsibility.

There is no required number of questions to ask or times to laugh. The aim is simply to notice whether curiosity, connection and play help make your week feel more balanced.

Growing older does not mean giving up the parts of life that feel light, imaginative or fun.

Food Reactions and Histamine: Why Qualified Advice Matters

Picture

Food Reactions and Histamine: Why Qualified Advice Matters

Histamine is a substance involved in several normal processes in the body, including immune responses. It is also present in some foods. Symptoms that occur after eating can have many possible causes, and a list of foods or symptoms on a website cannot establish that histamine is the cause.

If you notice a repeated pattern, it may help to record what you ate, the timing and the symptoms, then discuss that information with your GP. An allergy specialist or Accredited Practising Dietitian may also be appropriate. Avoid removing large groups of foods without qualified guidance, because unnecessary restriction can make it harder to meet your nutritional needs.

Seek urgent help for signs of a severe allergic reaction. In Australia, call 000 and follow your prescribed ASCIA Action Plan, including use of an adrenaline device if one has been prescribed.

Be Healthy Group does not diagnose histamine intolerance or food allergy. BodyTalk and HeartMath services do not replace medical assessment, allergy management or dietary advice.

Understanding Allergic Reactions

Understanding Allergic Reactions

Allergic reactions occur when the immune system responds to a substance that is usually harmless to most people. Triggers and reactions vary. Some reactions are mild, while anaphylaxis is a medical emergency.

Anyone with a known allergy should follow the plan provided by their doctor or allergy specialist. If a severe reaction is suspected, call 000 and use a prescribed adrenaline device without delay, following the person’s ASCIA Action Plan.

General habits such as varied nutrition, adequate fluids, sleep and movement can support overall wellbeing, but they do not prevent or treat an allergy. Avoidance strategies, testing and emergency plans should be discussed with qualified healthcare professionals.

Some clients choose BodyTalk as a complementary wellbeing service and may describe individual changes in how they feel. Those experiences vary and are not evidence that BodyTalk treats allergies, changes the immune response or replaces medical care.

Living With Pain: Gentle Support and Appropriate Care

Picture
Living With Pain: Gentle Support and Appropriate Care
Pain can have many causes, and the right response depends on the person and the situation. Sudden, severe or unexplained pain, pain after a significant injury, or pain accompanied by other concerning symptoms should be assessed promptly by an appropriate healthcare professional.
For persistent pain, an individual plan may involve a combination of medical care, physiotherapy or exercise physiology, psychological support and self-management. Depending on professional advice and the cause of the pain, helpful approaches may include activity pacing, gentle movement, relaxation, mindfulness, sleep support, or carefully chosen heat or cold.
There is no single technique that gives everyone immediate relief. Avoid pushing through movements that make symptoms worse, and seek advice about what is suitable for you.
Some clients describe feeling more relaxed or supported after a BodyTalk session. Individual experiences vary, and this should not be taken as evidence that BodyTalk treats the cause of pain. BodyTalk is complementary and does not replace assessment, diagnosis, medication, physiotherapy or other recommended care.
For Australian information about pain management, visit healthdirect.gov.au and speak with your healthcare professional.
